Motherhood is simultaneously wonderful and worrisome at the same time. During those times of worry and stress, it is important to find simple ways to unwind and keep your body healthy and your mind from being overwhelmed. Take a minute in your day to check out these simple approaches to finding your zen again.
(1) Don't underestimate the power of breathing. One of best things to try when you are feeling overwhelmed is to stop a minute and just take a few deep breaths. When you are overwhelmed, your breathing can often become short, out of rhythm, and shallow.

(2) If you have the opportunity, escape the situation by handing it off to another adult and retreating to your room for a moment to compose yourself. I know this isn't always an option when you are a stay at home mom, but take that moment to yourself when you do have that opportunity. Take a bath, paint your nails, or taking a nap can all improve your attitude when you are stressed.
(3) Make a scheduled appointment at least once a month. Even if it is just to go window shopping, find a day that works best for you EVERY month that you can just hand the responsibility off to another adult and just relax. Some moms schedule messages, some make an appointment to get their nails done, and others plan a girls night out. Having that one scheduled night is like having a light at the end of the tunnel to look forward to during those stressful days.
