Motherhood is simultaneously wonderful and worrisome at the same time. During those times of worry and stress, it is important to find simple ways to unwind and keep your body healthy and your mind from being overwhelmed. Take a minute in your day to check out these simple approaches to finding your zen again.
(1) Don't underestimate the power of breathing. One of best things to try when you are feeling overwhelmed is to stop a minute and just take a few deep breaths. When you are overwhelmed, your breathing can often become short, out of rhythm, and shallow.
Feng Shui consultant, Jayme Barrett talks about how practicing Pranic Breathing can completely compose you during a stressful or anxious moment. When we step back and breathe, our brain, vital organs, and muscles are all oxygenated and can function properly so we can formulate thoughts and movements best. So "just breathe" is a great idea in those panic moments.
Need some support focusing and staying centered? Our Goddess Collection necklaces are made with 54 beads and a hanging guru bead, providing calmness while repeating a mantra 108 times. Follow the 54 beads with your fingers. When you reach the end, head back around until you reach bead 108. Focus on your breathing throughout.
Any mantra that calms you will work.
Some that we love:
Breathe in, Breathing out
I give myself permission to slow down
Everything I need is within me
I am present now
Positive mind. Positive vibes. Positive life.
(2) If you have the opportunity, escape the situation by handing it off to another adult and retreating to your room for a moment to compose yourself. I know this isn't always an option when you are a stay at home mom, but take that moment to yourself when you do have that opportunity. Take a bath, paint your nails, or taking a nap can all improve your attitude when you are stressed.
(3) Make a scheduled appointment at least once a month. Even if it is just to go window shopping, find a day that works best for you EVERY month that you can just hand the responsibility off to another adult and just relax. Some moms schedule messages, some make an appointment to get their nails done, and others plan a girls night out. Having that one scheduled night is like having a light at the end of the tunnel to look forward to during those stressful days.
These are just a few ways to manage the every day, beautiful chaos of motherhood. Be sure to remember that if you are not healthy and taking care of yourself, you cannot take care of those little loves.
